Read Joshua 6:1 through 8:35

Published: Feb 24, 2017

“Israel has sinned; they have violated my covenant, which I commanded them to keep. They have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen, they have lied, they have put them with their own possessions” (Joshua 7:11).

God set Israel free and led them through the desert toward the Promised Land. Once there, the people could labor for their own needs and support their families. This was because God had entered into a contract with them. The only stipulation: they were to obey His commands. Some chose to defy God. Even though their actions were done in secret, God withheld His protection from the entire community until the situation was dealt with. The sins one committed had repercussions for many.

Like Israel of old, the Church has many members but one Body. Things done in the privacy of home have ripple effects upon the body of Christ. When God is honored in the home, the Church benefits. When He is dishonored, the Church suffers. Obeying God is the best way to love those with whom we fellowship.

Thought for Today: Good or bad, my actions will affect my church family.
